Struggling to keep her family lodge open, Kate pays attention to every detail except for one - her daughter, Emma. With promises to decorate for Christmas and focus more on family, Kate tries to parent Emma by herself, but much to Emma’s dismay, Kate ends up buried in work again and again. The rebellious teenager distributes the family newsletter with a sci-fi twist, creating frustration and conflict between mother and daughter. While in town buying her own personal touches for the lodge, Kate slips on ice and breaks her leg in front of the bakery, owned by Jack, a handsome widower and fellow nerd to Emma. Emma seizes the opportunity to set up Jack and Kate in an effort to make her mother happy again and force Kate to slow down to enjoy the holiday season. An invitation for dinner arrives in the mail giving Kate the chance to feel romance once again. But the discovery that the invitations to both Kate and Jack were written by Emma leads Kate to pursue a job in Miami. With the tantalizing draw of a big salary, Kate wrestles to make a decision that will best support Emma’s future. Kate’s deep conversations with Gerald, Emma’s grandfather and local handyman, propel Kate to make a choice that will bring her back to Jack’s arms and make all her Christmas dreams come true.
Synopsis:
Single mom, Kate, and her 15 year-old daughter, Emma, are headed into another holiday season, and Kate is hoping that business at the family lodge will be better this year than last. Trying desperately to make ends meet, Kate is painfully aware that her preoccupation with work is taking its toll on her relationship with Emma. Although she enjoys life in the quaint little Colorado mountain town where she grew up, Kate is worried that another sparse winter might bring financial ruin, and she is entertaining a job offer from a big resort in Miami. Emma is crushed at the thought of moving away from her few close friends and her after school job at the local bakery, where she and her boss, Jack, tell each other bad jokes and geek out over their favorite fantasy TV series. A trip on a slippery winter sidewalk lays Kate up with a broken ankle, and Jack steps up, helping with everything from cooking meals and getting Emma to and from school, to putting up Christmas decorations. Although Kate is anxious to get back up and fully functioning, Emma is happy to have her mom at home, and, with Jack around for dinners and weekend activities, their house is beginning to feel much more like a home again. Kate and Jack cannot deny that their feelings for each other are growing stronger each day, and she will soon have to choose between her sense of fiscal responsibility and the chance at a new family life.
